When you look at yourself you probably think that you're pretty solid, I mean you're not exactly see-through are you?
Well, let me put your conception into a bit of perspective here. Using the average human chemical composition, assuming your weight is 70 kg, then the measurable volume of the atoms themselves, of which you are composed would only be about 3.5 L. Quite interesting is it not? In between those atoms is basically just empty space an force fields.
Now, you probably think those atoms are rather solid, right?
I'm sorry, but they are actually mostly empty space. If you calculated the measurable volume of protons, neutrons and electrons, of which the atoms are composed, the volume you would be left with would only make up about 0.00000000000400 % of those 3.5 L. That is about the same as comparing the volume of a regular handball to the volume of a cube which would be close to 3 km heigh, wide and long. That is a lot of empty space! And, I haven't even started on what the protons and neutrons are made of!
Anyway, from a "physical" point of view, let's say for example that your volume is about 50 L, then you're actually something like 99.9999999999997 % empty space (when considering protons, neutrons and electrons to be "solid"), in which the only thing keeping you together are the strong and weak inter- and intra-atomic forces!
So much for the physical and solid world, huh?
